Carbon steel bunka made by Zach Rhymer that features a beautiful hamon on the blade. A hamon is a differential heat treatment process that creates a visible line (hamon) separating the hardened edge of a knife from its softer, tougher spine. A layer of heat-resistant clay is applied to the spine before the blade is heated and quenched. It takes a true maker to produce quality hamons, as the blade has to brought to near mirror finish prior to heat treatment and then finished again after heat treatment. Pictures don't do it justice.
