Introduction to Sushi Making: Hand Rolls

Discover how easy and rewarding it is to make fresh sushi at home. In this hands-on class, you'll learn the fundamentals of preparing delicious Japanese-style hand rolls (temaki)—a fun, casual style of sushi that's perfect for entertaining or weeknight dinners.

We're excited to welcome Chef Nathan Diener of Fat Belly as the instructor for this class. A well-known and respected figure in Chattanooga's culinary community, Chef Diener brings years of professional kitchen experience and a passion for sharing his craft with others. In addition to leading Fat Belly, he serves as the General Manager of Parkway Pour House, where he continues to help shape one of the area's favorite dining destinations.

We'll cover the essentials, including:

  • Selecting and preparing sushi rice
  • Understanding the key ingredients and equipment
  • Proper knife techniques for slicing fish and vegetables
  • Rolling and assembling beautiful hand rolls
  • Tips for sourcing ingredients and recreating everything at home

Each guest will prepare and enjoy a variety of hand rolls using fresh ingredients while learning techniques that can be used long after class is over.

Whether you're completely new to sushi or looking to build confidence in the kitchen, this class is designed to give you a solid foundation in one of Japan's most enjoyable culinary traditions.
